About Kindred

Kindred is a commercial insurance broker based in Christchurch, working with New Zealand businesses who want a straight answer instead of a sales pitch.

Our story

Why Kindred exists

Kindred started with a simple frustration: watching good businesses get let down by insurance that only showed up when something was being sold. Renewals that felt automatic. Claims that surfaced a gap nobody had ever explained. Advice that arrived after the damage was done, not before.

Kindred was built to be the opposite of that. Not the broker with the most access, or the biggest book of clients — the one with the best judgement. Someone who treats your business like it actually matters to them, because it does.

How Kindred works

Clear, not simplified

We won't pretend commercial insurance is simple — it isn't. What we will do is explain what's actually complex, in plain language, until you know exactly what you're covered for.

Advice first, sale second

Sometimes the right advice is inconvenient — telling you a policy isn't right for you, even if it costs a sale. That's what an advisor is for.

The unglamorous work, done properly

Sums insured. Exclusions. The clause everyone skips. This is where claims get won or lost, and it's where we spend our time.

Care that shows up at claim time

Kindred Care isn't a slogan on a wall — it's what happens when your business actually needs us, not just at renewal.

Meet Tracy Eddy, Principal Broker

I'm Tracy Eddy, Principal Broker and Director at Kindred. I started this business because I was tired of watching good businesses get let down by insurance that only showed up when something was being sold.

I know what it's like to be counted out before anyone's really looked at what you're building.

My job is to understand your business well enough to tell you the truth about what it needs — even when that's not the easiest answer. That's not a service promise. It's how I'd want to be treated myself.
